Action Item: Check For Manure Buildup – 8000 IPW

Technical Service - Technical Guide

This document sets out the step-by-step instructions for checking an In-Pen Weighing (IPW) Position for manure buildup, and resolving the issue if manure is found.

How to check for manure buildup

  1. Remove any manure buildup from the IPW rubber mat and any manure build up that is located under the IPW rubber mat overhang.

    2. Place IPW position into the service position.

a. With the IPW position in its upright position, you should be able to place your hand on the top lip of the scale (where the spray nozzle is located) and apply pressure to tip it away from the water trough.
b. As you do this, the scale floor will move up out of the IPW frame. The back set of brackets act like a hinge for the scale during this motion.
3. Disconnect the data cable and the spray lines.
4. Using a shovel clean out any manure build up from under the IPW scale.

5. Reconnect the data cable and spray lines.
6. Place the IPW scale back into the frame. Ensuring that the scale is not rubbing or hung up on the frame.
a. The scale floor should sit flush with the top of the frame when viewing the position from the front.
7. Repeat this process for all IPW scales.
8. Test IPW positions that were services with the test wand.
a. Stand on scale.
b. Place test want through the antenna over the water trough.
c. Hold test wand for 15 beeps.
