Why producers are driving hours to Windy Hill Farms for IVF

A Vytelle satellite success story

Windy Hill Farms, a registered seedstock operation raising Black Angus cattle in Ramseur, North Carolina, is redefining reproductive success for East Coast cattle producers. Owned and operated by the Moss family, the farm became an official Vytelle satellite site in 2022 to offer hormone-free in vitro fertilisation (IVF) services to fellow cattle producers.

As demand soared, Windy Hill Farms expanded quickly, opening a second location in Gretna, Virginia, in 2024, with plans for a third already underway. With over 350 donors collected in just two years and a 150% year-over-year growth rate in their satellite IVF operations, Windy Hill Farms has solidified its place as a regional hub for advanced reproductive technology.

As a Vytelle satellite, Windy Hill Farms delivers complete IVF services, from scheduling and donor collection to embryo production, logistics, and billing, bringing convenience, consistency, and results to producers across the region.

From sceptic to supporter: A veterinarian’s perspective

Dr. Brent Scarlett, veterinarian and owner of Scarlett Mobile Large Animal Services in Asheboro, NC, has long been passionate about cattle reproduction. He began performing artificial insemination at age 13 and even completed a college research project on follicle- stimulating hormones. Still, he was hesitant about IVF until working with Vytelle through Windy Hill Farms.

“I was traditionally not a fan of IVF because of poor conception rates with some other providers,” he said. “And it pains me to say this because I have preached against it for so long and I’m not getting paid to say this, but my experience with Vytelle using Windy Hill Farms as a satellite has shown significantly better conception rates with Vytelle embryos than with some competitor embryos. We are consistently getting around 50% conception.”

Brent credits not only Vytelle’s hormone-free IVF but also small management changes, like improved recipient nutrition and stress reduction, for the success.

“It’s opened up possibilities for my clients they didn’t have before.”

Why producers choose Windy Hill Farms

Danny and Kaelyn Wright, Wright Bros. Beef, Bedford County
Despite a three-hour drive, Danny and Kaelyn Wright choose Windy Hill Farms over closer options. Their reasoning? Trust and results.

“I’m the type of guy if you give me your word, I expect you to keep it and Will did that,” Danny said. “From the collections to the billing, everybody at Vytelle is easy to work with. Will has done everything over and above what he said he would. Now everything we do is IVF we don’t do any conventional at all anymore.”

Tucker Coward, Mill Creek Cattle Co., Ramseur, NC
Tucker Coward runs a commercial and registered herd and has worked with Vytelle since 2022. He also owns a trucking company and often hauls donors for others pursuing IVF.

“The ease, efficiency and professionalism of the Windy Hill Farms and the Vytelle team make for an easy satellite choice,” Tucker said,  “It’s a great place to do IVF and I think it’s worth a try for anybody. Even on the commercial side if you’ve got a cow you say, ‘I wish I had 10 more just like her,’ this is how you can make that happen.”

For cattle producers across the Southeast, Windy Hill Farms has become synonymous with hassle-free, high-success in IVF, making cutting-edge reproductive technology more accessible to producers.
