INTRODUCTION

For each trial the client must fill out a pre-trial checklist. ‘Pre-Trial Check List’ program can be found on the front screen of the main ‘GrowSafe DAQ’ software.  Only one pre-trial checklist needs to be filled out for each trial, even if the trial covers multiple pens – just ensure the appropriate pens are selected. All input areas and checkboxes must be completed to ensure all information is entered into the database correctly. 

PROCEDURE

‘Open the Pre-Trial Check List’ program

Open the ‘Pre-Trial Checklist Program’ from the list of programs on the main ‘GrowSafe DAQ’ screen (Figure 1).

 

Enter ‘Login ID’ Information

Select ‘Guest’ from username dropdown (Error! Reference source not found.)

 

Select Trial Date Information

Enter the following trial date(s) information by selecting calendar icon(s) on the ‘Pre-Trial Check List’ screen (Figure 5):

• ‘Warmup start date’,

• ‘Trial start date’, and 

• ‘Trial should finish before’.

 

WARM-UP PERIOD:

Must be at least 10-14 days long,

• Gets animals used to feeding from the GrowSafe system,

• Allows development of an animal’s intake behavior pattern before the trial starts, and

• Ensures that all animals are feeding, tags are reading and equipment is functioning correctly.  

 

RESIDUAL FEED INTAKE (RFI) TRIAL:

Animals must remain on trial for a minimum amount of days. This is dependent of the weight system that is being utilized for the trial.

TRIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• 35 valid days of data

o Animals are still required to stay on trial for a minimum of 49-70 days based on weight system used.

• First 5 trial start days data cannot be consecutive fails 

• Last 5 trial end days, data cannot be consecutive fails

Warm-Up Period First 5 Days of Trial Trial Last 5 Days of Trial

10-14 Days Chute Weight System = 70 days

GrowSafe Beef (SGB) = 49 days

Enter Number of Animals

Select the total number of animals on trial by selecting the ‘# of animals in the trial’ dropdown selector (Figure 6).

• If one pen is to be used then enter the number or animals in that pen,  

• If multiple pens are to be used then it is the sum of all of the animals in those pens on that particular trial.

Enter Pen(s) Information

ALL PENS

If the trial will be conducted in all pens, select the ‘All’ button at bottom of the ‘Pre-Trial Check List’ screen (Figure 7).

 

ONE (1) PEN

If the trial will be conducted in only one (1) pen, highlight the desired pen by selecting the pen from the ‘Trial will be conducted in pens’ list on the ‘Pre-Trial Check List’ screen (Figure 7).

 

MULTIPLE PEN(S)

If the trial will be conducted in multiple pens, but not include all pens. Select the desired pen(s) by clicking and holding the ‘Ctrl’ button on the keyboard. Pen(s) selected will highlight in blue (Figure 7).

Physically Inspect System

Complete all ‘Physically Inspect System’ tasks and select checkboxes when completed (Figure 8).

System Calibration Check

The system calibration check is used to calibrate the scales (within 3%) of the GrowSafe System. Ensure that a known weight is used. It is recommended that a pre-calibrated weight be purchased.

 

Enter the ‘System Calibration Check’ information (Figure 9):

• Enter weight (in pounds) that was used for the calibration by selecting the ‘Weight’ dropdown. 

• Enter the ‘Start Time’ and ‘End Time’ that system calibration check was conducted by selecting the calendar icons.

• Time started when placing known weight and beep wand in bunk,

• Time end when removing known weight and beep wand from bunk.

• Ensure to not lean on bunk during this time.

• Select ‘System Calibration Check’ checkbox when complete.

 

 

Complete Pre-Trial Check List

When all information is entered select ‘Enter’ button at bottom of ‘Pre-Trial Check List’ screen (Figure 10).

 

‘Data entered Successfully’ message will appear (Figure 10).
