Action Item: Check Scale Calibrations – 8000 IPW

Technical Services - Technical Guide

In-Pen Weighing (IPW) Position scale calibrations are conducted to ensure that the scales in the RTU load bars are functioning correctly. Calibrations of every IPW position needs to be conducted when:

  1. Prior to starting a trial at the start of the warm-up period. Calibrating scales is part of the pre-trial check list procedure.
  2. After replacing an RTU,
  3. Replacing a DAQ panel (all IPW positions connected to that DAQ panel need to be calibrated),
  4. Routine IPW troubleshooting.

When conducting scale calibrations with the positions you must use at a minimum 100lbs certified weight. Ensure that you are using the verified weights provided by Vytelle and not your body weight or bags of feed. Each client should have 2 x 50lb certified weights for calibration.

HOW TO CALIBRATE SCALES

If conducting routine scale calibrations and not testing the spray system use the test wand, not the test wand that is configured for spray.

When conducting calibrate scales ensure that you take note of the time you conducted scale calibrations, the weight used and the IPW positions that scale calibrations were conducted on.

  1. Place 100lbs certified weight(s) onto the IPW scale.
  2. Insert the test wand into the same IPW position. Ensure that you do not touch or lean on the scale.
  3. DAQ panel should emit an audible beep.
  4. Wait and listen for 10-15 consistent beeps.
  5. Once you have observed 10-15 consistent beeps, remove the test wand and weights.
  6. Repeat the process on other IPW positions if required (starting a new trial or calibrating scales because you have replaced a DAQ panel).
  7. Leave a trial note on the DAQ computer notifying your TSR that you have conducted calibrations. Ensure that your note includes date and time calibrations were conducted, weight used, IPW scales calibrated, and reason calibrations were conducted.
  • For example – “I completed scale calibrations of IPW positions 1,2,3 and 4 on 6 Feb 2022 at 2:30pm using 100lbs. Conducted calibrations for start of new trial.”
  • Note, trial notes are not sent to Technical Support instantaneously. Technical Support will not receive the Trial Note until data has been uploaded to the servers (which happens at 6AM local time). If you require immediate verification of calibrations contact Technical Support through email or phone during operating hours.
