New state-of-the-art IVF lab, Vytelle’s third in Australia in twelve months, addresses growing demand for hormone-free genetic solutions in Australia’s largest dairy-producing state.
Vytelle, a global leader in livestock reproductive technology, is proud to announce a successful first week of operations at its new Melbourne lab, completing Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) procedures on over 100 donor cows. This rapid uptake highlights the strong demand for innovative, hormone-free reproductive solutions in Victoria’s dairy sector.
The Melbourne lab is Vytelle’s first facility in Victoria, its third in Australia, and 21st globally. Located in the heart of Australia’s largest dairy-producing state, the new lab is designed to serve the increasing number of progressive farmers focused on optimising herd performance through advanced genetic technologies.
“We have been very happy with the response from the Victorian dairy community,” said Vytelle Australia’s Commercial Director Andrew Donoghue. “This surge of activity demonstrates the growing demand for reproductive solutions that allow farmers to enhance the genetic potential of their herds sustainably. In particular, producers and farmers are attracted to our hormone-free approach with no donor setup, and the ability to keep high performing cows pregnant and in the herd while still collecting.”
Donoghue says Vytelle is Australia’s ‘market maker’, doubling the number of IVF embryos produced across the nation since the global company expanded its IVF offering here in recent years.
“Vytelle is the most accessible, reliable and predictable solution to drive genetic progress. In particular, our frozen direct transfer embryos are making IVF more accessible than ever to those who never thought it could be possible to have such great results with frozen embryos.”
“The Melbourne lab is opening up the option for fresh embryo transfers to southern customers, and that is particularly interesting allowing breeders to choose fresh and frozen work depending on their programs and needs for the industry.
“Vytelle is shaping the future of modern reproduction in Australia with a success rate of live calves on the ground in Australia ranging from 55%-60% with fresh embryo programs and 45%-50% for frozen embryos.”
Vytelle’s success in Victoria builds on its strong track record across Australia, with its Brisbane lab having completed its 18th month of operation serving a variety of breeds including Holstein, Angus, Wagyu, Droughtmaster, Brahman and Shorthorn breeders Australia wide.
“The addition of the Melbourne lab will help meet the growing demand for genetic progress and provide farmers with efficient, easy, and hormone-free methods to produce more valuable calves faster,” Donoghue said. “Our technology not only allows farmers to optimise the genetic traits of their herds, but also ensures the process is easier on the animals, with less cost, stress and labour involved,” added Donoghue.
Victoria’s dairy industry produces 5.47 billion litres of milk annually, contributing close to two-thirds of Australia’s milk production. With nearly 70% of the nation’s dairy farms located in the state, Vytelle’s hormone-free IVF solution offers farmers a competitive edge in enhancing herd productivity and sustainability.
“We’re excited to expand our services in Victoria and contribute to the state’s leadership in sustainable dairy and beef farming.”
Vytelle’s hormone-free IVF technology is part of its mission to help farmers produce more protein with fewer inputs, ensuring that meat and milk remain viable and competitive food sources for future generations.
